Finally, as it appears that using the database of the central register of the Ministry for Information Development (which is presented as containing data on approximately 80% of residents in Moldova) is being contemplated to enhance the voter lists updating process, consideration should be given to provide some legal framework for the use of this database. Such a framework should be in conformity with the stipulations of the Council of Europe’s Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, which Moldova has signed in 1998, but not yet ratified.
