Paragraph 32

In itself, the newly adopted composition of the CEC – according to our information, 2 members nominated by parties/coalitions/factions which passed the 4 % threshold in the 1999 parliamentary elections, 2 members nominated by the autonomous republics and 1 nominee of the President of Georgia – is not contrary to the standards of the European electoral heritage. It seems that it would actually imply a re-politicisation of this body, by eliminating the role of the NGOs. More detailed comments could be made as soon as the new text is available to the Venice Commission.
