It is necessary to note that according to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Moldova, any crimes, for which the Criminal Code prescribes a punishment of above five years in prison, are considered serious. Thus, it may be advisable to further review this article and relevant provisions of the Criminal Code to provide for specific cases in which the court of law makes a decision on deprivation of the right to vote, where it is proportionate to the committed crime and serves the aim of the punishment declared in Article 61(2) of the Criminal Code of “reinstating social justice, correction of the convicted, as well as prevention of new crimes”.
