Article 11

The President of the Republic is not responsible for executive acts. The same applies to those who exercise presidential authority.

The President may not be prosecuted on a criminal charge except with the consent of the Althingi.

The President may be removed from office before his term expires if this is approved by a majority vote in a popular referendum called upon a demand of the Althingi, by a resolution approved by three-fourths of the Members. Such referendum shall then be held within two months after the adoption by the Althingi of such resolution. The President shall not perform his duties from the time the resolution is adopted by the Althingi until the results of the referendum are known.

If the demand by the Althingi is not approved in the refendum, the Althingi shall forthwith be dissolved and new elections be called.
