216.1. This Law and the local electoral laws will establish the characteristics of the electoral documents and materials, and they should establish that:

a) The electoral documents and materials should be prepared using raw materials that can be recycled, once the time comes for their destruction; 

b) In the case of the electoral ballots, these should be prepared using the security mechanisms approved by the Institute;

c) The destruction should be carried out using methods that protect the environment, as approved by the respective General or local Council,

and d) The protection of and care for the electoral ballots is considered a matter of national security.
