The recommendation from the 2014 Joint Opinion on strengthening the authority of the National Audit Office to check the accuracy of campaign finance reports seems addressed in Article 172. The amended provision stipulates the obligation for contestants to report on their expenditures during an election campaign. This would add more transparency in reporting on electoral expenditures, provided that the Bulgarian National Audit Office has the appropriate resources to monitor party and campaign accounts. However, according to information received during the expert visit, the National Audit Office seemingly needs additional resources to fulfil its duties effectively.
