Under the European Convention on Nationality persons holding dual nationality must have the same electoral rights as other nationals. The electoral law in Portugal stands out as a positive example. It expressly stipulates that Portuguese citizens who also hold a citizenship of another state do not lose their eligibility to vote because of that fact.
