In some states that have only consultative referendums, provincial or municipal bodies may nevertheless have to follow a specific procedure after the vote. In Belgium, provincial or municipal councils must give reasons for their decisions in relation to matters that have been the subject of popular consultation; in the Netherlands, according to the temporary law, they had to take a new decision if the outcome of the referendum was negative, and decide on the entry into force of the text if the outcome was positive.
