Following a constitutional referendum[19] held concurrently with the 2 November 2003 parliamentary elections, amendments were made to Articles 49 and 58 of the Constitution of Georgia. According to these, the Parliament of Georgia “shall consist of 100 members […] elected by a proportional system and 50 members elected by a majority system …”. The amendments would only come into force after the expiry of the mandate of the Parliament elected in 2004. The next parliamentary elections are due in spring 2008.
