Other restrictions on the rights to stand as a presidential candidate should be carefully addressed, keeping in mind international standards justifying such additional restrictions only on objective grounds and reasonable criteria. According to Article 50 of the Constitution and Article 65.1 of the Election Code, “Every person having attained the age of thirty-five, having been a citizen of the Republic of Armenia for the preceding ten years, having permanently resided in the Republic for the preceding ten years, and having the right to vote is eligible to be elected as President of the Republic”. The age limit of 35 years to stand for the presidency is quite high. Moreover, the requirement of 10 years residence and 10 years citizenship appears excessive. Except in very specific situations, it can hardly be justified by the protection of any national or democratic interests.[10]
