Article 7. Suffrage Principles |
Article 7 lists the five principles of the European electoral heritage,3 which are thus now protected at the constitutional level. This is to be welcomed. It would seem also important to add the principle of “parity of sexes”, so that the electoral legislation may provide for legal rules requiring a minimum percentage of persons of each gender among candidates.
