Specific Remarks C
Chapter 4. The National Assembly
Article 98. Termination of Powers of a Parliamentarian
The “acquisition of the citizenship of a different state” is one of the grounds of termination of powers of parliamentarians. This is the logical consequence of Article 47 paragraph 2 which requires that a candidate be “a citizen of the Republic of Armenia only”. This requirement is not in conformity with the European Convention on Human Rights (see under Article 47. Right to Vote and Right to Participate in Referenda) and should be removed, together with the provision of the loss of mandate in case of acquisition of a second citizenship. |
