Since 2007, the President of Turkey is elected through a direct vote (Article 101). The term of office is five years and the person may be re-elected once. This model is maintained under the amended Constitution. Any citizen of Turkey who is eligible to be a deputy, is over 40 years and has completed higher education may stand as a candidate.
