The reference to “childhood, fatherhood, motherhood” in the amended Article 1 should be reconsidered, and ideally even removed, to avoid a potential perpetuation of possible gender stereotypes including limiting women’s roles to being wives and mothers.33 This is all the more important given the March 2015 Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women on Kyrgyzstan, which noted with concern “the persistence [of] deep-rooted patriarchal attitudes and stereotypes concerning the roles and responsibilities of women and men in the family and society”.
