Paragraph 22

In the Republic of Moldova, the funding of political parties and electoral campaigns is mainly governed by two different sets of rules, laid down by the 2007 LPP and the 1997 EC, as complemented by several other regulations. Both laws have been subject to repeated amendments in recent years. As far as party and campaign funding is concerned, a substantial reform was implemented in 2015. It consisted of legal amendments to eight relevant laws (EC, LPP, CC, CAO, Code of Criminal Procedure, Broadcasting Code, Tax Code and Law on thE Court of Auditors) and was aimed at increasing transparency in political financing, strengthening the supervisory and enforcement mechanism and thereby implementing recommendations made by the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR, and by GRECO.
