In February 2016, the Government elaborated the Priority Reform Action Roadmap in response to Council of the European Union conclusions on the Republic of Moldova. Enhancing transparency of political parties financing and the accountability of elected representatives was identified as an essential element of combating corruption, which was among the priorities of the Roadmap. One of the measures taken in that framework was the provision of public funding to political parties in 2016.
