Excessive restrictions to equal voting power may result from passive electoral geometry: the inequality arises from protracted retention of an unaltered territorial distribution of seats and of constituencies. To avert this situation, two methods may be used. The first is regular reallocation of seats to the constituencies, and the second entails regular redrawing of the constituencies themselves. This will be addressed more in detail below.
