Paragraph 92

In autumn 2017 the Supreme Court heard oral argument in Gill v. Whitford, a constitutional challenge to a redistricting plan for the state legislature passed in 2011 by the State of Wisconsin’s Republican-controlled legislature. In 2016, the lower federal court declared the plan unconstitutional on the grounds that its district lines were purposely drawn to favour one political party and to disadvantage the other.
