Paragraph 33

According to Article 9(1) of the Electoral Code, the date of the elections is set by a decree of the President of the Republic according to the rules provided for in Article 65 of the Constitution. Indirectly, Article 9(1) of the Electoral Code also extends the application of Article 65 of the Constitution to the setting of the date for local elections. This Article provides, inter alia, that “the mandate of the Assembly starts with its first meeting after the elections and ends on the same date, of the same month of the fourth year from the date of the first meeting” and that “elections for the new Assembly are held in the nearest electoral period that precedes the date of the ending of the mandate of the Assembly”.
