Article 9(1) of the Electoral Code further sets out that elections for the Assembly are to be conducted on one of the last two Sundays within the electoral period, no later than 30 days before the expiry of the mandate of the Assembly (or respectively the local governments units). In case the mandate ends earlier than 30 days from the beginning of the electoral period, elections must be conducted in the preceding electoral period. This seeks to avoid even minor extensions of the respective mandates.
