In a number of democratic countries, in spite of a really pluralistic environment, the influence of party machinery and control by the party elite is increasing and the representation of the individual interests is decreasing, concentrating the political power in the hands of the few, reminding us of the danger of the oligarchic model, described by Ostrogorski and Michels.
