Hereafter we shall examine which framework the Constitutions and the electoral law of the States of Europe contain for the dissolution of Parliament and the choosing of the date of preterm elections. We distinguish three types of dissolutions of parliament. The dissolution can either be automatic (A), it can be the result of a decision taken by Parliament itself (B), or it can be the result of a decision taken by the Head of State or the Government (C).
