Elections are regulated by constitutions, electoral laws and election-related laws such as party laws, media laws etc. As for the electoral laws, it is recommended to incorporate the main aspects of the electoral legislation into one single election code, adopted in an open and inclusive manner. Whilst some countries have adopted a unified election code applicable to all types of elections, it should be noted that such a unified code governing all types of elections is not applicable to all countries, particularly not to federal states with different electoral systems for subnational elections.
