It is worth highlighting a special provision that aims to overcome the underrepresentation of female candidates in single-member constituencies (see the chapter on women’s representation below). In the parliamentary elections of 2019 in the Republic of Moldova, where a mixed member proportional system was applied (see the chapter on electoral systems below), male candidates needed to collect between 500 and 1,000 supporting signatures in single member constituencies, but women only between 250 and 500.
