It is quite uncommon that eligible voters are allowed to cast their ballot at any polling station in a country (and abroad) regardless of their place of residence, as is the case in Latvia and Lithuania. Usually, voters are required to cast their vote in a specified polling station near to their place of residence. In order not to disenfranchise those voters who are not able to vote in their respective polling station on election day, the electoral laws and electoral administrations usually provide for some form of absentee voting.
