Different measures have been taken by the EU, EU member states, the US, Canada and tech companies themselves to increase transparency and limit undue influence of malevolent actors. Such attempts to regulate online political advertising include disclosure provisions requiring to reveal who is behind the advertising, who created it and the amount of money spent; prohibition of campaign spending by foreigners; and voluntary transparency measures by social networks and other internet platforms.
