Since coming back to a multiparty system in 1990, Hungary has used mixed electoral systems, with around half of the members of Parliament elected by a majoritarian system in one-member constituencies and the other half on proportional lists, with a compensatory mechanism. According to the present law (following substantial amendments in 2011), 106 Members of Parliament shall be elected in single-member constituencies and 93 from national lists. The proportional system is applied with a threshold of 5 % for single parties, 10% for joint lists of two parties and 15 % for joint lists of more than two parties. Partial compensation takes place, which should ensure a more proportional result.
