Equality of opportunities regarding access to the media during electoral campaigns has been recognised as one of the most important principles in guaranteeing free and fair elections. The lack of equal opportunities for electoral competitors with regard to their possibilities of access to the media is a matter of great concern in the Republic of Serbia. This is a problem that has different causes, some of which have to do with the structure of media ownership and with the media's dependence on public funding and private advertising, and others more directly related to the rules governing election campaign coverage.
