Secondly, reflecting concerns regarding the impartiality of the REM, in October 2021, a Temporary Supervisory Authority for Media Monitoring during the Election Campaign (TSA) was set up by the government to monitor the media’s compliance with campaign regulations only for the April 2022 elections cycle. Of the 12 TSA members, six were proposed by REM and six by various opposition parties. This institution is largely perceived as a failed experiment that did not contribute to effective media monitoring.
