Without prejudice to the foregoing, this sovereign choice remains subject to compliance with the principles of the European electoral heritage. In this context, particular consideration must be given to the obligations arising from the principle of equal suffrage, which, in the case of the electoral system, necessitates adherence to the standards of equal voting power, on the one hand, and equality of opportunity, on the other.
