In January 2024, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted Resolution 2525 (2024), entitled “The theme of migration and asylum in electoral campaigns and its consequences on the reception of migrants and their rights.” Building on the draft resolution contained in Report Doc. 15832 of the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons, dated 25 September 2023 and bearing the same title, the Assembly expressed deep concern over the increasing instrumentalisation of migration in electoral contexts.
