During electoral campaigns, the line between factual assertions and value judgments often becomes blurred. Many statements by candidates, even if debatable or exaggerated, fall within the scope of legitimate political debate. This sets a high threshold against State restrictions on electoral discourse, even where misleading information is involved, unless exceptionally compelling reasons are present.
